A great night’s sleep is something we all aspire to, however this is not always easy. We have put together some helpful tips to ensure that you get the nights sleep that you deserve!
Routine
Getting into a routine is vital, this will help your body clock take control. Going to sleep at a similar time each night and getting up at a similar time each morning will allow your body to adjust into a regular sleep pattern. In the morning, you should avoid sleeping in. This will throw out your body clock! The more consistent you are, the more likely you are to achieve your deserved great night’s sleep.
To nap or not to nap?
Avoid napping if you can! However, if you feel that it essential napping isn’t the worst for a great nights sleep. Although there is no clear evidence or suggestion as to how long the ideal nap should be, we suggest keeping it under an hour. Set an alarm on your phone so you do not exceed an hour! Try not to nap if it is getting towards the end of the day, you will regret it when you are counting sheep at midnight!
Daylight
Get the most out of your day, try to spend time outside ideally in the sunshine. Make sure you let natural light into the rooms you are in. If possible, start your day by waking up to natural light!
Your Bedroom
Make your bedroom a peaceful tidy and relaxing place to be. Remove all distractions including phones and tablets. Try to eliminate outside noise. Earplugs and eye masks can really help you settle into a blissful sleep.
Keep your room cool and well ventilated. A bedroom that is too hot or too cold can interfere with your quality of sleep.
Your bed
A comfortable bed is key. Make sure your mattress and pillows offer you the required support for your body. Invest in good quality bedding; a cosy light weight duvet and high quality bedding are a very worthwhile investment.
Before you sleep
Avoid big meals at night by eating earlier in the evening. This will give your body time to digest your food before you settle down. Avoid eating sugary foods and a high volume of carbs. Your body will not be moving as much so it will not be able to break down sugars and fats as quickly as it can usually.
Any artificial stimulant will have an adverse effect on your ability to sleep soundly. Drinking alcohol, sugary drinks and coffee before bedtime is also to be avoided. Be aware of all liquid intake if you do not want to be up and down to the loo during the night!
A great night’s sleep is something we all look to achieve. By following our tips and making a few changes to your lifestyle, you could be sleeping like a baby in no time.
We hope you get to achieve your perfect nights sleep!
