Job Description

An Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer is required by a Building Services Company who are based in Tonbridge. Our client specialises in the design of air conditioning, mechanical, electrical, public health, life safety and communications systems.  They focus on major fit-out, new-build, and refurbishment projects within the hotel, commercial, retail, leisure, banking, diplomatic, residential and restaurant sectors. A degree in Building Services Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical bias) is preferred together with a minimum of 5 year’s experience.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the design of mechanical works as allocated by Associate Mechanical Engineer and have the following background:

  • Extensive UK experience in the commercial sector of building services (MEP) – hotels, offices, high-end residential etc. (survey and design)
  • Experience in the management of junior/intermediate staff
  • Car driver, ideally with short commute from home to Tonbridge office
  • An outgoing personality, capable of running projects with enthusiasm
  • Familiarity with the London construction market and the hotel/hospitality industry
  • Demonstration of fluency in verbal and written English

Main Duties of the Role:

  • Follow design procedures and maintain records
  • Carry out mechanical design work
  • Meet time and quality targets set by Associate Mechanical Engineer
  • Ensure drawing mark-ups are ready for CAD/explain any particular standards required
  • Work co-operatively with fellow mechanical and electrical engineers on particular projects
  • Concentrate on tasks at hand to ensure efficient working
  • Inform Associate Mechanical Engineer of any workload concerns
  • Seek more work from Associate Mechanical Engineer as soon as end of current workload is imminent
  • Produce schedules for specifications/compile parts of specifications as directed by Associate Mechanical Engineer
  • Assist with surveys, inspection and witnessing as required by Associate Mechanical Engineer
  • Ensure familiarity with applicable statutory and legal regulations including H&S requirements
